This partnership ensures that before you leave the hospital your home care respiratory therapists are working in collaboration with your hospital’s team to get you home and help keep you there.

In 2014, Jennifer gave birth to a baby girl, Sydney. Right from the start, Sydney had some unexpected complications. She had to spend the first nine and a half months of her life in the hospital. When it was finally time to go home, Jennifer and her husband Steven were nervous. Bringing a baby with a tracheotomy home from hospital is scary—there are so many unknowns. But thanks to a joint venture between ProResp and Royal Victorie Regional Health Centre, Jennifer, Steven and Syndey knew they were in good hands. They were introduced to Stephanie and the team at Royal ProResp while they were still in hospital, guaranteeing a seamless and worry-free transition from hospital to home.
The ProResp team knew Jennifer and Steven had a lot to manage, and worked with them to create a new routine and give her family the skills they needed to feel comfortable managing Sydney’s airway. “They really made us feel confident and safe in that first year,” Jennifer told us. “And we are at 7.5 years now, and can’t believe the support ProResp continues to provide us and what that’s allowed us to do.”
In recent years, with the help of the ProResp team, Sydney and her family have been able to expand their activities to resemble what most people would call a normal life. They are able to do things they never thought would be possible, like take the family camping, go for a boat ride, or travel to see relatives 5 hours away. “These are things we never thought we would be able to do,” said Jennifer. “Things that most families would not bat an eyelash at, like going to the pumpkin patch, just did not seem possible given Sydney’s condition. But with the support and reassurance of ProResp, we are figuring out how to do these normal things and give our daughter those wonderful experiences and memories she deserves. We’ve even been tobogganing!”

This integrated care model allows Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre’s frontline caregivers and management to work directly with ProResp’s frontline caregivers and management to ensure you get the best care possible.
Our teams regularly measure patient satisfaction and performance and report this information back to senior management of the hospital and ProResp.
